An investigation is underway after human remains were found in a wooded area of Dunnellon, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The discovery was made Friday afternoon by a man who was walking through the Florida Highlands. The man told deputies he tripped over a tree branch and saw the bones on the ground.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were at the scene Saturday to recover the remains.

The medical examiner is working to identify the remains.
