Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a man on Sunday who turned himself in and confessed to hitting a pedestrian and leaving the scene earlier in August.

FHP officials said Daniel Vavra, 41, walked into the Ocala Police Department Sunday. Vavra identified himself as the driver of the vehicle involved in an August 20 fatal hit and run that killed 45-year-old Kevin Scott Jones of Ocala.

Troopers responded to the police station and questioned Vavra, who told them he thought he'd hit a deer when he hit Jones.

Based on Vavra's statement and the physical evidence in the case, Vavra was arrested and subsequently charged with leaving the scene of a deadly crash.
