Sanford Police worked with multiple agencies Saturday afternoon to retrieve the body of a man who drowned after walking into Lake Monroe.

  • Witness said man made suicidal statements before entering the water
  • Man reportedly swam out into the water and made no effort to swim back
  • Body recovered short distance from marina

Officials say Sanford Police were alerted via a 911 call around 4:40 p.m. that a man had walked into the water near the Monroe Harbour Marina.

Witnesses on scene said they heard the man, later identified as Brian Miller, making suicidal statements before entering the water. Miller, according to witnesses, swam out into the water and made no visible effort to resurface or swim back.

The Sanford Fire Department and Seminole County Sheriff's Office Dive Team responded and located Miller's body a short distance from the marina.

At this time, investigators say there is no appearance of foul play.
