  • Belle Isle mayor said the man in his 60s was found dead
  • Crews searched Lake Conway for four hours for missing paddleboarder
  • Missing paddleboarder's name has not been released

Crews were searching for the man who reportedly went under water off Cay Circle near Belle Isle.

The man, who was in his 60s, was found dead hours after the search started, according to Lydia Pisano, mayor of Belle Isle

Crews searched the body of water for at least four hours Thursday.

Witnesses tell News 13 the man fell off a paddleboard and saw him go under water, but did not come back up.

One neighbor heard the man yelling for help and that is when they called 911.

Police said the search started around 6:30 p.m. and ended shortly after 10 p.m.

At one point, dive teams were sent out and then crews used sonar equipment.

Orange County Fire Rescue said unless the paddleboarder was able to swim to shore, it is unlikely he could survive.

Fire rescue also said there were no reports of any missing people in the area, but they still searched the water.

"There are a lot of weeds out there depending where you are at. In the shell end obviously there is more weeds when we arrived on scene. It was pretty windy and choppy which coincided with someone falling off of a paddleboard and not being able to keep up with it," said Battalion Chief David Janssen of the Orange County Fire Rescue.

The name of that paddleboarder has not been released yet.

This is a developing story.
