Dozens of rounds were fired Wednesday afternoon during a drive-by shooting in a Melbourne neighborhood, but no one was reported injured, police said.

The shooting happened around 3 p.m. on Walker Street near University Boulevard. Melbourne Police said someone in a vehicle drove by a group of people and fired several rounds. At least one person in the crowd of people returned fire.

About 30 to 40 bullet casings were found in the street, police said.

Police said they don’t think anyone was struck during the exchange of gunfire, but they have alerted local hospitals in case someone was wounded and goes to the hospital.

The drive-by shooting is an ongoing investigation.
