A Brevard County mother is facing neglect charges after her teenage sons were found living in filth ranging from piles of trash to feces from more than 20 dogs living inside.

  • Mother arrested for child neglect
  • Deputies: Home on Carter Street deplorable
  • Dog feces covering floor, piles of trash

A neighbor smelled the strong odor of dog waste from outside the Carter Street home in Port St. John -- and called deputies.

According to a report, deputies found the inside of the house in total disarray.

"People who don't have voices need a voice, and that's children and even animals," the neighbor said.

The neighbor of 52-year-old Tamara Daniels didn't want to be identified, but did say she had concerns for quite some time that things weren't right, especially with twin 14-year-old boys living there.

"Hearing dogs yelping, like they were being hurt. A number of dogs," the neighbor said.

More than 20 dogs were found by deputies inside the house.

There was dried dog feces and urine covering the entire floor throughout.

The floor was covered with trash that had to be moved to provide a walking path, and piles of trash higher than one of the teen's beds, forcing him to sleep on the living room couch.

The house was infested with roaches, and dirty dishes lined the kitchen counter top.

The boys were found barefoot, with dog feces caked on the bottom of their feet.

Another neighbor we spoke with questions why Daniels' family never spoke up.

"They are walking in it, when you have all those dogs in the house and not coming out, of course you are going to see that, but where are the other family members?" said Tee Smith.

The report states Daniels said to the Dept. of Children and Families worker: “I know it's bad, please don't take me to jail."

The teens -- who are not enrolled in school -- are currently staying with relatives.

Daniels appeared in court Monday and is being held on a $10,000 bond for child neglect.
