Here's what the Central Florida weather forecast looks like for Friday night and the weekend:

  • Rain chances stay at 30% to 40% for the weekend
  • High temperatures will climb into the 90s for Saturday, Sunday
  • TROPICS: Tracking activity in the Atlantic Basin

A few isolated storms have been bringing select locations locally heavy rain and lightning this evening. But as has been the case this week, activity will wrap up shortly after sunset. We're keeping a 30 percent to 40 percent chance over the weekend, with highs heating back into the 90s.

Sea breezes are on the move, but with drier air aloft, their collision may not provide much in the way of thunderstorm activity this evening. Anything able to develop could contain frequent lightning, heavy rain and gusty wind. The best chance for isolated storms will be from western Orange County into Lake County, with activity wrapping up shortly after sunset.

High pressure just to our south over the weekend will bring our flow around from the southwest, keeping us in a 30 percent to 40 percent afternoon rain chance this weekend with seasonable highs in the lower 90s.

The weekend surf forecast looks poor to very poor, with minor east-southeast swell mix leftovers Saturday and a swell dribble Sunday.

Wave heights stay below knee level with an offshore morning flow and an afternoon sea breeze. Water temps have cooled to 72 degrees at Daytona Beach and around 78 degrees at Cocoa Beach.

In the tropics, Tropical Storm Fiona is forecast to pick up speed this weekend as it continues on the current path. As the storm crosses cooler waters and encounters drier air and wind shear aloft, we are expecting it to weaken to tropical depression status. It’ll begin turning northwestward thanks to a weakening ridge of high pressure to its north, and looks like it will eventually brush east of Bermuda.

There is another tropical wave, Invest 99, just off the African coast that has a medium chance for tropical development over the next five days as it moves west toward the Lesser Antilles.
