Some Lake County residents are fighting to keep more than a hundred homes from being built in their backyard.

  • Residents worry about traffic, loss of rural life

Extreme Grove Investments LLC wants to build 122 homes on more than 66 acres of land east and west of Flynn Court.

Yanette Moyano and her husband live on 5 acres of land on Flynn Court with their six hens and five dogs.

She said there's only around 15 houses in the entire area.

"This is a jewel in south Lake County," she said. "It’s a very rural area, you can see people have horses across the street."

Moyano says she moved to the area from South Florida to get away from all the sudden growth.

The owner of the property Extreme Grove Investments wants to develop said the land used to be a citrus grove. But the grove contracted greening, a disease that kills citrus trees. He said they had no choice but to develop it.

Moyano says she's concerned about traffic and wants the number of proposed houses to be cut in half.

"The part that’s unacceptable for us is the density at which they want to develop," she said.

The owner of the land said they plan to build another road to help ease traffic on Flynn Court. He also said he lives on the property he's planning to build on and wants to build in line with the community standards.

Clermont city officials say a public hearing wouldn't come before the city council any sooner than next month.
