Students attending Volusia County schools made history this morning as students are expected to show up wearing uniforms for the first time.

The uniforms consist of polos which should be the same color as the school colors.

They can wear khakis, black or blue pants or jumpers for girls.

But grandparents and parents who waited until the last weekend before the start of the school year had a tough time getting both the polo and have it monogrammed in time for the first day of school.

School superintendent James Russell says polos do not have to be monogrammed, but they just have to be the color of the school colors.

“This is a very liberal policy. It’s basically a polo shirt or an oxford-style shirt. Everything else from the waist down, when mom opens the closet, you probably have the attire there," Russell said.

Some students News 13 spoke with say they don't like the uniforms, but say they can get used to them.
