The city council heard a presentation on the Zika virus from the Flagler County Health Department on Tuesday.

The key things discussed included how the virus impacts pregnant women and children, prevention and what to do if you're traveling.

During the meeting some residents explained their concerns about mosquitoes possibly breeding in swails because of the moisture in Palm Coast.

But, the city said it will do its best to maintain their system and assure residents mosquito control is on alert.

The Flagler Health Department said people from more than 30 of Florida's counties have been infected including some traveling from Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

People who live in Palm Coast are already taking precautions because of the virus.

"I seem to be one of those people that mosquitoes love," said Pastor Sims Jones.

Jones said he can't keep mosquitoes away from him without drenching himself in repellent.

"If I go to a park I get bites all over, so I make sure I spray myself before I go outside," said Jones.

Anita Moeder said she is trying to protect her family.

"We are doing some things around the house, drying coffee grounds, and using those in the flower beds around the house to keep mosquitoes away," said Moeder.

But officials said if you're outside in an area where there could be mosquitoes, make sure you spray yourself so you don't get bitten.

Jones hopes they can keep a handle on the situation.

"That concerns us because you know if it's around you, sooner or later it's going to get to you,” Jones said. “I think we need to do all we can to avoid it."
