Season eight will be the last for the beloved fantasy drama, “Game of Thrones.”

  • Game of Thrones to end with season 8
  • Season 7 will debut summer 2017

HBO’s new programming president confirmed the news during the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Saturday.

A tweet posted by tv.com, which was retweeted by HBO’s official PR Twitter feed, seemed to further confirm the news.

“Game of Thrones” fans will also have to wait a little longer for season seven.

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss previously announced that production on the hit show would be delayed because of weather.  Executives are waiting for winter to arrive at some of the show’s filming locations in Europe.

Because of the production delay, season seven won’t debut until next summer. New seasons usually debut in April.

“Game of Thrones” received a whopping 23 prime-time Emmy nominations this year, more than any other show.
