Here's the Central Florida weather forecast for Friday evening into Saturday morning.

  • Hot weekend forecast
  • Watching activity in Atlantic

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southwestern Orange County and south central Lake County that lasted until 3:30 p.m. The storms, which passed near Clermont and Lake Louisa, packed wind gusts of up to 60 mph and potentially penny-sized hail.

Earlier, it was a quiet start to the day with plenty of sunshine and early temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. But we’ve warmed up quickly, with temperatures in the 90s and heat index numbers over 100 degrees. The Gulf Coast sea breeze started early, and a few showers and storms are developing and moving east. We’ll keep a chance for more storms the rest of the afternoon and into this evening. Anything that develops may hold heavy rain and frequent lightning.

A few storms may linger through sunset, then clouds will begin to clear overnight. Expect partly cloudy skies as we head toward daybreak Saturday with lows in the mid to upper 70s.

No major changes are expected with the forecast this weekend. Temperatures will remain in the mid to low 90s with triple-digit heat index numbers. Showers and storms will be possible each afternoon and evening, it'll increase slightly for Saturday.

In the tropics, there are two areas of low pressure out in the Atlantic that we’re watching. Invest 96 is located south of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving west. There is a medium potential for tropical formation in the next five days. Invest 97 is in the central Atlantic and is also moving west. There is a low potential for tropical formation in the next five days. Both storms are quite far away from Central Florida and have a lot of obstacles before getting anywhere near us.

Beach and boating conditions will be favorable heading into the weekend. Just watch for approaching storms.
