Here's the Central Florida weather forecast for Thursday night into Friday.

  • Little bit of moisture returning Friday
  • 3-5 degrees hotter than normal temperatures
  • Watching 2 Invests far out in east Atlantic

It will remain partly cloudy to mostly clear overnight, with temperatures falling into the middle 70s. A few showers and storms will be possible along the sea breeze Friday; however, the chances are only about 20 percent for the coast and 30 percent inland. Temperatures are expected to get back into the middle to upper 90s in the afternoon.

A ridge of high pressure has been building in from the Atlantic, allowing for warmer temperatures and lower rain chances lately. We have some moisture returning Friday that will help increase the chance for showers and storms to about 30 percent, still below what we would normally expect this time of year. Normal high temperatures are about 92 degrees, but most of us will be 3 to 5 degrees above, with heat indices near 100 to 105.

In the tropics, we are watching two tropical waves near the African coast. Potential formation over the next five days for Invest 96 is 40 percent; for Invest 97, 30 percent. They are both over a week and a half away from getting close to our coast, hinging on either or both developing and remaining on present course. You can watch our tropical updates on News 13 every 51 minutes past the hour.

Surfing conditions are quite poor, with wave heights only about 1 to 2 feet. The rip current threat remains low, good for swimmers. But the UV index is extreme, so it’s easy to burn in just a few minutes without UV protection.
