Bernie Sanders delegates and supporters staged a brief sit-in Tuesday evening at a media tent at the Democratic National Convention.

While Hillary Clinton was becoming the first woman to claim the presidential nomination of a major U.S. party, Sanders delegates walked out of the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia and protested at the media tent for about an hour.

Outside, police started detaining Sanders supporters who climbed the 8-foot fences at the edge of the secure zone around the arena.

It wasn't immediately known how many people had been detained.

Groups of protesters, with a banner that read "RIP DNC," were marching back up Broad Street toward Philadelphia's City Hall, where a number of marches originated earlier Tuesday.
