Two people are dead and more than a dozen others are hurt after a shooting outside of a nightclub in Fort Myers, police say.

  • Reports of shots fired outside Fort Myers nightclub at 12:30 a.m.
  • 2 confirmed dead, 14 to 16 others hurt in the shooting
  • Several people have been detained for questioning, police said

Fort Myers Police responded about 12:30 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of Club Blu Bar and Grill, which is located at 3580 Evans Ave. The attack apparently occurred at a teen party, billed as a "Swimsuit Glow Party."

When police arrived at the scene, officers located several victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening, according to Capt. Jim Mulligan, with the Fort Myers Police Department.

Sean Archilles, 14, and Ste'fan Strawder, 18, died in the shooting, police said.

Mulligan said "at least 14-16 people" were also injured in the shooting.

"The investigation is still very active, as is the crime scene," Mulligan said in a news release. "Investigators are working very hard to determine a motive and answer many of the questions you have submitted. However, at this time, those questions will not and cannot be answered."

Fort Myers Police have determined the shooting was not terrorism.

So far, three people have been detained for questioning, police said. There are two other scenes that are part of the shooting investigation, Mulligan said.

Florida Attorney Pam Bondi is heading to Fort Myers to offer assistance to the victims of the shooting, her office said.

"This senseless act of violence left two dead and 16 others, including children and teens, wounded. As the investigation into this nightclub shooting continues, I will be in Fort Myers today to meet with law enforcement and offer assistance to victims and their families suffering in the aftermath of this tragedy,"  Bondi said in a statement.

The shooting came more than a month after a nightclub shooting in Orlando that was the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history. The shooting at the Pulse nightclub on June 12 left 49 victims dead and 53 others wounded.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Fort Myers Police Department at 321-7700. Callers may also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). Tipsters may remain anonymous.
