State officials announced Friday that the jobless rate in Florida has remained unchanged.

  • Florida's unemployment rate for June was 4.7%
  • Orlando metro area led the state for job creation
  • Gov. Rick Scott said 102,600 jobs have been added in Florida since January

Florida’s jobless rate was 4.7 percent in June, marking the second consecutive month where unemployment was at that rate.  That rate is below the national unemployment rate of 4.9 percent.

Florida has added 102,600 new jobs since the start of 2016, Gov. Rick Scott said. According to the Department of Economic Opportunity, each of the state’s metro areas had year-over-year job gains last month.

The Orlando metro area led the state, adding 49,000 jobs over the past year. The unemployment rate for the Orlando metro area was 4.5 percent in June.

For Orlando, the leisure and hospitality industries saw the most growth with 13,500 new jobs.

“Our focus on cutting taxes and making it easier for businesses to create new opportunities is clearly working to put Florida on the path to becoming first for jobs,” Scott said in a statement.

The Tampa/St. Petersburg metro area wasn’t far behind, adding nearly 45,000 new private-sector jobs, according to the report.

Scott made the jobs announcement during a stop at Port Tampa Bay during the commission of two new Panamax gantry cranes. According to the Florida Ports Council, Florida’s seaports have generated more than 680,000 jobs and contributed $496 billion to the state’s economy.
