The Titusville community is still reeling after two people were shot and killed at Parrish Medical Center Sunday.

  • Rouzer a 13-year veteran of Parrish Medical Center

Among those devastated by the tragedy is Katrina Foster-Fernandez, a friend and one-time co-worker of victim Carrier Rouzer. The two formed a bond while Foster-Fernandez worked in the hospitals Environmental Services Department.

"When I heard it was Carrie, I was like, 'Gosh, it was somebody I know,'" said Foster-Fernandez. "It's heartbreaking. It could have been me."

In fact, Foster-Fernandez, who has since moved on to other employment, worked on the third floor where the shooting, which took the lives of Rouzer and an elderly patient, took place.

Foster-Fernandez said she and Rouzer were fast friends when they worked together. Rouzer had a bubbly personality and was always willing to help where she could. Foster-Fernandez thought of her often even after she left the hospital.

"A closely as we worked together, you don't forget people," Foster-Fernandez said.

A private memorial service for Rouzer was held Wednesday night at Parrish Medical Center. Plans for a community vigil are in the works.

The suspected gunman, 29-year-old David Owens, remains in jail without bond.
