A 16-year-old driver of a car that is on its side allegedly struck a Port Orange Police Department officer on Madeline Avenue and Clyde Morris Boulevard.

  • Officer's injuries are unknown, but listed in stable condition
  • Suspect has been taken into custody

Police told News 13 the 16-year-old was at the Port Orange Pavilion around 3 a.m. and driving erratically and that’s why police first tried to stop him.  

A Port Orange police officer tried deploying stop sticks on Madeline Avenue and Clyde Morris Boulevard when the teen driving the SUV allegedly struck and injured the officer.

That officer was taken to Halifax Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

According to a witness, the suspect, whose name has not been released, was heading south on Ridgewood Avenue, then made a U-turn driving north.

Officers who deployed stop sticks were waiting for him and that’s when the car flipped on its side.

The teenaged suspect was not injured and was taken into custody.

This is an ongoing investigation.
