A man was killed in a shooting at a store early Saturday morning in Volusia County, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.

  • Bobby Willis, 30, was shot after argument inside store
  • The suspect, Ricky Kelly, was also shot when Willis returned fire
  • Willis died at the scene; Kelly was taken to the hospital

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. at MLK Grocery located on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard.

Police say Bobby Willis, 30, got into an altercation with Ricky Kelly, 32, inside the store. Willis walked out of the store and was shot by Kelly, according to investigators.  While Willis was lying on the ground he returned fire, hitting Kelly at least once, witnesses told police.  Willis was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, Kelly was picked up by a Cadillac and taken to Halifax Health Medical Center. He is expected to survive.

Kelly later told police that Willis shot him and that he ran from the scene without firing a weapon.

However, investigators say surveillance video shows Kelly firing his weapon first.  At this time, the surveillance video is not being released by authorities.

Investigators say Kelly will be charged with first-degree murder.
