An intruder is dead and another is on the run after a home's resident opened fire with his own gun early Wednesday, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Two men armed with handguns broke into a home on 3 Frank Place #A in Palm Coast at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office stated on its Facebook page.

“Once inside, a resident of the home confronted the armed men and shot one of them. That suspect died at the scene,” according to the statement.

A second man ran away, and deputies and a K-9 team has not been able to find him.

The Sheriff’s Office does not have a description of the fleeing suspect, and the identity of the dead man will not be released until his next of kin has been notified.

There is no word yet whether the home's resident will face charges.

The investigation is still ongoing.
