The month of May turned out warm and wet across Central Florida.

We were a bit above normal with our average temperatures in May:

  • Orlando had a monthly average temperature of 77.4 degrees. That was 0.1 degrees above normal.
  • Daytona Beach had a monthly average temperature of 75.7 degrees. That was 0.7 degrees above normal.
  • Melbourne had a monthly average temperature of 76.8 degrees. That was 0.5 degrees above normal.
  • Vero Beach had a monthly average temperature of 76.7 degrees. That was 0.5 degrees above normal.

A few daily rainfall records were seen May 17:

  • Melbourne: Rain total of 2.99 inches was enough to break the previous record of 0.60 inches set in 1943.
  • Daytona Beach: Rain total of 3.12 inches was enough to break the record of 1.59 inches set in 2010.
  • Vero Beach: Rain total of 11.22 inches shattered the previous record of 1.38 inches set in 1945. This also ranks as the highest daily rainfall for the month of May and for the year. Another record was set May 19 with 3.27 inches. The previous record was 2.82 inches set in 2009.

Here is a look at the monthly rainfall totals:

  • Orlando received 6.17 inches of rain. That was 2.72 inches above normal.
  • Daytona Beach received 5.70 inches of rain. That was 2.57 inches above normal.
  • Melbourne received 7.69 inches of rain. That was 4.40 inches above normal — enough to rank as the third wettest May on record.
  • Vero Beach received 17.98 inches of rain. That was 14.62 inches above normal. That makes this May as the wettest May on record. It broke the previous record of 12.06 inches set in 1979.
