A new exit ramp on Interstate 4 to Princeton Street will require drivers to exit an eastbound portion of I-4 sooner than the previous ramp, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

I-4 exit ramp 85 was scheduled to open Friday, July 1 but has been delayed because of weather Thursday night. Transportation officials did not provide a new date for when the ramp would open.

When the ramp does open, drivers will need to exit onto Princeton Street immediately after the slight elevation point where I-4 passes over New Hampshire Street. FDOT officials say concrete barriers have been set up to separate exit ramp and interstate traffic.

Officials advise modifications could still be made to the exit ramp because of weather delays or any other unforeseen conditions.

The new ramp is part of the multi-billion dollar I-4 Ultimate project that will reconstruct 21 miles of interstate from west of Kirkman Road to east of State Road 434 in Longwood.

The I-4 Ultimate Project is expected to be completed in 2021.
