Here's what's in store for Central Florida's weather for Tuesday night and looking ahead to Wednesday:

  • Hot, hot, hot: Feels-like temperatures in the 100s
  • Stormy afternoons continue through the end of the week
  • The UV index is extreme, with a sunburn possible in minutes

The west coast sea breeze fired up earlier today, with slow-moving downpours and lightning set to take some of us through the evening commute. Activity dies off shortly after sunset, but don't put away the rain gear. More storms are in the forecast the next couple days.

Deep moisture continues pouring in, thanks to a ridge of high pressure stretched across the region and a weak upper-level low well to our north. Showers and storms that have been able to develop continue to put down locally heavy rain and produce frequent lightning.

Once the sun sets, these storms will quickly die off. Not much change in our forecast the next several days, with 50 percent to 60 percent rain chances favoring central and eastern areas of the peninsula. Highs stay in the 90s heading into the holiday weekend. Slightly drier air may work in on the Fourth of July.

A small east-to-east-southeast trade swell means poor conditions for surfers. Waves stay knee-high at best the rest of this week. Surface water temps are in the low 80s around Daytona Beach, and mid 80s around Cocoa Beach. The UV index is extreme, with a sunburn possible in minutes.
