At about 4:35 a.m. Monday, a driver of a 2003 GMC Envoy was traveling eastbound on SR 408 when, for some reason, he lost control of the SUV, the Florida Highway Patrol stated in a news release. The vehicle struck a guardrail and continued for a distance.

Two male passengers, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the SUV, the FHP said.

The SUV came to a rest on the shoulder of the road. One passenger died and the other, plus the driver, taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

Troopers are trying to confirm the identities of the men, and the crash remains under investigation with charges pending.

The eastbound lanes have reopened.
