The city of Palm Coast is scoping out water areas to that need wildlife caution signs. The decision was made after an alligator killed a boy at a Walt Disney World resort earlier this month.

Catherine Hudak spends a lot of time at a Palm Coast park. Sometimes she walks her dog along the canal and sometimes takes out her kayak. But she said she knows alligators and any other wildlife can be lurking in the water.

"They could come in and out and that is my concern," said Hudak.

She is cautious and knowing that two-year old Lane Graves life was taken by an alligator at a Disney resort last week is unsettling.

"Sick to my stomach, really sad. They can kill anything," said Hudak.

Disney has put up new warning signs and a rope fence at the resort after the tragic incident. But the toddler's story has hit home and led to council members receiving calls about putting up signs in Palm Coast.

"It's more of a message of education just to make people aware that this is a habitat for different critters, snakes and alligators," said city spokesperson Cindi Lane.

Lane said the city's signs will look similar to some signs that are already in the parks with a natural look.

The city said experts say there are at least 100 bodies of water in the area with an estimated 1,000 alligators.

Less than two weeks ago, people saw an alligator come up to a busy intersection and walk across a crosswalk.

That was pretty close to home for some neighbors, so Hudak believes the signs are needed.

"I think they should definitely spend some money and put some signs out and any kind of educational thing they can do," said Hudak.

The city parks team will go out to different areas that have bodies of water that are close to public access points and they'll determine the content and locations for the signs.
