Two men have been arrested after a man they got into an altercation with in Lady Lake died from his injuries.

  • Brice Hall, 19, and Nicholas Metcalfe, 18, arrested
  • Victim Austin Stevens died from injuries sustained in the altercation June 5

Brice Hall, 19, of Weirsdale, and Nicholas Metcalfe, 18, of Belleview, both were arrested on Friday.

According to Lady Lake Police, Hall, Metcalfe and two friends drove a minivan to the vicinity of Spanish Springs Town Square on June 5. While there, they proceeded to drive recklessly around the square, spinning tires in the parking lots, police said.

When the group drove past McCall's Tavern where Austin Strevens was working, the group yelled profanities at the employees cleaning the patio area, police said.

When the group parked the minivan near Too Jay's restaurant, Stevens left McCall's Tavern to confront them, according to a report.

While talking to two of the van's occupants, Hall allegedly ran up behind Stevens and punched him on the side of his head. Stevens then fell to the ground and hit the back of his head on the concrete, police said.

Metcalfe then reportedly kicked Stevens in the face while he was down on the ground.

Police said Stevens was "alert, coherent and mobile" when Lady Lake Police arrived to the scene.

"After being evaluated at the Villages Hospital, it was determined that (Stevens') injuries were more severe than originally thought," a police report states.

Stevens, 27, was transferred to the trauma center at Ocala Regional Hospital, where he later died.

Hall has been charged with manslaughter. Metcalfe has been charged with felony battery.

The investigation is complete and there are no other suspects, police said.
