Here's what you need to know about Central Florida's weather for the rest of the week:

  • More strong storms on the way
  • A rare May cold front is moving in

Isolated showers will be possible overnight while temperatures remain mild, only falling to near 70 under a mostly cloudy sky.  Wednesday will be our last day with rain possible for a while.  A strong cold front will be moving across the state, bringing scattered showers and storms for Friday morning through the middle of the afternoon.  Temperatures will be falling over 10 degrees behind the front as much drier air moves in for a few days.

Our break from the rain will be short-lived overnight, with a very good chance for showers and storms moving in during our morning commute Wednesday. There’s plenty of moisture ahead of the front, so locally heavy rain and a few severe storms are possible.

Hail, wind gusts, and frequent lightning may accompany these fast-moving storms late in the morning into the early afternoon.

We dry out Thursday into next week. Highs will cool slightly into the upper 70s and lower 80s from Wednesday through Saturday, then jump back into the upper 80s to around 90 on Mother’s Day.

Widespread showers and storms will impact beach plans for Wednesday, especially for the morning and afternoon.  If you catch a break from the rain, surfing looks poor. Wave heights will remain ankle to knee high, the rip risk low to moderate.
