A man on a golf cart ran over a sandhill crane and killed it Friday, a witness claims.
The incident happened at the Spanish Village gated community in Lessburg on Friday morning.
Kailee Hatcher says when she confronted the man who allegedly ran over the bird, he told her he did it because the sandhill crane was “messing up the golf course.”
The alleged incident snapped the sandhill crane’s neck.
The Spanish Village complex refused to speak to our reporters. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission did comment though, saying that it's a federal offense to attack a sandhill crane.
Investigators from their team will be looking into the incident.
