The I-Drive 2040 Strategic Vision plan outlines a series of upgrades and developments for International Drive.

Local leaders are working to change the building code for new projects, which would complement their vision for a more walkable, urban I-Drive.

Permit applications have been submitted for brand new hotels, restaurants, bars and attractions that will be part of the redeveloped space.

“We have identified an incredible hub," said Alberto Vargas, Orange County Planning manager.  “(It’s) an incredible area for local and conventioneers to experience and thrive within that experience.  And, if they want to live within that general urban environment, they would be able to do so.”

The Orange County Board of Commissioners will vote on the code changes in July or August in order to formalize its adoption.

Commissioners hope to incorporate transit changes to the 4,000 acre area to lessen traffic on I-Drive.
