A Special Tropical Weather Outlook was issued Tuesday as an area of low pressure is forecast to spin up off our east coast by the end of this week.

Weather models are in pretty good agreement that this area of low pressure will remain very weak, but because conditions may be slightly more conducive for development, it’s a situation The Weather Experts will be watching closely.

It has a low (30 percent chance) of tropical/subtropical development.

Low pressure is currently forecast to begin developing sometime Friday afternoon. The models differ on location, but it will be somewhere off the Florida east coast and north of the Bahamas. As it develops, it is expected to move north toward South Carolina by Monday.

Depending on where the low develops and moves, we could be looking at a decent shot of showers and storms Saturday through Monday, or a fairly dry holiday weekend. If it develops closer to the Florida coastline, anticipate higher-end rain chances. If it develops further offshore, expect dry air to be pulled into the peninsula and result in much lower rain chances.

In any case, beach conditions could be rough and our surf high from Friday night into Memorial Day.
