One person was killed and another injured in a crash early Saturday morning in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

  • Driver lost control of vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic
  • Vehicle crashed head-on with another vehicle
  • Driver of second vehicle was killed

The crash happened just after midnight at U.S. Highway 441 and Southeast 40th Loop.

A Chevy Malibu was traveling southbound on U.S. 441 when the driver lost control and entered the center median, troopers said.  The car became airborne and traveled into the northbound lanes.  The Malibu collided head-on with an oncoming Chevy Astro, according to the FHP report.

The Malibu overturned, landing on its roof in the northbound lanes.

The 44-year-old driver of the Malibu was taken to Ocala Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was killed.

No additional information was released.

The Florida Highway Patrol said charges are pending.
