A search is underway for the driver of a red minivan that struck and killed a motorcyclist early Sunday morning in Volusia County, police said.

The hit-and-run crash happened around 3:12 a.m. about 200 feet west of Beach Street in Daytona Beach.

According to police, a motorcycle and a minivan were traveling west on Fairview Avenue when the minivan struck the rear of the motorcycle. The motorcycle was dragged westbound on Fairview Avenue along with the driver. The driver of motorcycle was ejected and left on the side of the road on the 100 block of Fairview Avenue.

The motorcyclist, identified as Rodger Martin Jr., of Bunnell, died at the scene.

The driver of the minivan continued to drag the motorcycle until it reached U.S. 1, where the motorcycle became disengaged.

Daytona Beach police said the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run is likely a red Dodge minivan (1996-2007) with front-end damage.
