The City of Winter Garden is opening a pilot program that has residents clucking their approval.

  • Winter Garden creating backyard chicken pilot program
  • 25 permits will be allowed
  • Interested residents must go to City Hall and get on list

The City Commission agreed this week to allow a small number of homes to have backyard chickens.

Residents who are interested need to go to City Hall and add their name to a list for the program. The city is offering up just 25 permits though.

The one-year pilot program was approved after residents requested one within city limits.

City officials will meet with interested residents next week to go over the rules, including fencing, coop size, classes, etc.

Similar programs exist in Orlando and Maitland.
