Cedric The Entertainer is running for mayor.

Well, at least he is during his fifth and final season of "The Soul Man" on TV Land.

We caught up with the actor/comedian, who you can also catch this weekend in "Barbershop: The Next Cut" - in theaters now.

Here's a portion of the interview. The full video is in the section on the right.

ALLISON WALKER: You feed off the reaction of that huge live audience, so I imagine on a TV set that you look for someone for reaction, even if it's the camera guy.

CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER: [Associate producer] Vito. He has one of the biggest laughs. So if you make Vito laugh, it's just like a one holler. He goes, "HA!' and you know you've got a good joke."

AW: In The Soul Man, you're an R&B superstar-turned-minister who relocated from Vegas to St. Louis. How attractive is the thought of retreating to your own "bubble" where you can just "be."

CTE: It can be a little appealing. In this day in age of Instagram and taking pictures wherever you go, it's one of these things where you go, there's a little something to have an anonymity. Now, when it comes to being able to jump the line and then go in front of people because you're famous, that's the part I don't want to give up!

AW: With the - let's say - "special" dynamics of this election season, does the thought of running a city - like in your show - turn you on at all?

CTE: It's something I don't think I would really want to do - is ever run for a public office. But we thought it would be fun with the presidential election going on and the campaigning there... it gave me the idea to do something like that for a whole seasonal arc. The fighting - to see who's going to be representing the best of the people and yet it brings out the worst in people - it seems like something I would not want to do everyday. That's for sure.

AW: In Barbershop 3, what was your strategy for making this third installment as wildly successful.

CTE: For Ice Cube and myself, we wanted to make sure that we had a great story to tell, that we just didn't just want to come back and do a third one for money or just because the studio wanted to do one. So we were able to capture the fact that Ice Cube's character, Calvin, has a 14-year-old son, being kind of hypnotized by the streets and the street culture. The barbershop comes and saves him. So we do that in an entertaining, funny way, but with a great message.
