A brother and sister were arrested Thursday, accused of robbing a Girl Scout outside a Walmart in Deltona last weekend.

"There's not like there's a theft where we say that theft is acceptable. But to steal money from a 12-year-old girl, a Girl Scout selling her cookies, I think we can all agree that's pretty low," said Volusia County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Andrew Gant.

Nicholas Delbrugge, 20, and his sister, 25-year-old Ashley Winters are accused of the unthinkable.

"Essentially what happened is on Sunday afternoon, we had two people casing a Girl Scouts cookie stand. The male suspect grabbed the [money] box out of the little girl’s hands and took off with it," Gant explained.

According to the arrest report, deputies said Delbrugge was "acting strange, asking questions about the cookies and staring at the money box."

Deputies added that the troop leader told them the 20-year-old got away with about $200.

However, law enforcement was familiar with Delbrugge from previous run-ins with the law.

"Thankfully we got some good surveillance images, we got some good tips from people who recognized the suspects in those images and we got an arrest," Gant said.

The 12-year-old girl's family said they were relieved an arrest was made and thankful for the monetary support they've received from the community.

Nicholas Delbrugge's bond has been set at $150,000.

Ashley Winter's bond has been set at $50,000.

Both are expected to make their first appearance in court Friday afternoon.
