A 16-year-old girl is dead after she was found at the bottom of a friend’s pool in DeLand, according the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

An emergency call came in at about 8 p.m. Wednesday from a home along Crows Bluff Road, in the Lake Mack area.

Investigators said a mother returned home from work to find her 15-year-old daughter extremely intoxicated and a 16-year-old girl at the bottom of the swimming pool. The mother called the father, who rushed home, dove into the pool, pulled her out and performed CPR on the 16-year-old until deputies arrived.

Both teens were taken to Florida Hospital in DeLand, where the 16-year-old, identified as Autumn Thompson, was pronounced dead, deputies said. The 15-year-old was listed in stable condition.

When deputies questioned the 15-year-old, they said she told them Autumn had spent the night at the home, and the girls had been drinking and smoking marijuana.
