An inside look at NASA’s solid rocket booster processing facility

NASA gave News 13 photographer Jon Shaban a tour of the solid rocket booster processing facility at the Kennedy Space Center Tuesday.

The facility will support NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) solid rocket booster processing operations.

The SLS booster is 17 stories tall and is the largest, most powerful solid propellant booster ever built. NASA says each booster generates more thrust than 11 four-engine jumbo commercial airliners.

The heavy-lift rocket will launch astronauts in the Orion spacecraft and pave the way for future flights to deep space, including a manned mission to Mars.
