The Volusia County School District says it is at an impasse in negotiations with with the teachers' union and the support staff union.

Negotiation teams met for a tenth time to monday evening to come up with pay and benefits for the current school year.

The school district says the union negotiating team has rejected their proposals, but is not coming up with any counter-proposals.

The Volusia Teachers Organization, however, said it's the district that has offered only a "take it or leave it" attitude, and refuses to talk about negotiating a contract for this year. Only next year.

The union is asking for a Special Magistrate to be assigned in the impace process. The magistrate reviews arguments on both sides and will issue a recommendation.

The union is also threatening to file a lawsuit against the school district for the district's plan to change employee's health insurance benefits next year.
