The suspect in a shooting that killed a Bethune Cookman University student and injured two others is being held without bond in the Volusia County Jail.

Outside the Volusia County Jail Sunday, tears and the tight hugs from Don'kevious Johnson's family as they try to deal with their loss.

"I just wanted him to see the anger and the hurt that I was going through that he took my son from me and from his daughter," said April Quimbley, the victim's mother.

Johnson's family was in the courtroom Sunday as Lamont Postell, 23, stood before a judge wearing bandages after turning himself in Saturday.

Police said Postell killed 23-year old Johnson and injured two other students in a shooting at a clubhouse party Friday after a fight.

His attorney said he claims he was beaten until he was unconscious during a fight and didn't know he was wanted on murder charges.

"He's very frightened he just insists that he did not do this and that he did not have a gun he did not shoot anyone he did not kill anyone, said Donna Goerner, Postell's attorney.

But now a young father, football player, and dearly loved family member is gone and his family said their pain is only beginning.

“I want him to see this to see how hurt I am he took my best friend from me that was my best friend that was everything to me and he gone he's gone," said Natoria Lawrence, victims sister.

Their only hope-- is Johnson's suspected killer will not go free.

“I hope he behind bars for the rest of his life because my brother cannot come back," said Johnson.

Johnson's mother said her son was a sophomore majoring in business and psychology at BCU. She said they're praying for the other students to pull through.

The judge set no bond for each count. Postell faces murder and two counts of attempted murder.
