Lamont Keith Postell Jr., the man wanted in connection with the shooting of three Bethune-Cookman University students at a party, killing one, has surrendered, Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said Saturday afternoon.

"It brings some comfort to us to heal we will pray for him as well and that we can move," B-CU Associated Vice President of Student Development Bonisha Porter said.

The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday at a clubhouse at the Indigo Lakes Golf Club at 312 Indigo Drive.

Police said a fight broke out at the party. When officers arrived, they found two people lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Investigators say that 23-year-old Postell, of Miami Gardens, got a gun and shot 23-year-old Don'Kevious Donmantae Donmar Johnson. Johnson was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, where he died. Johnson was a sophomore psychology major at B-CU and a former Wildcats football player for one season in 2014, the university said.

According to investigators, a bystander identified as Justine Cunningham was also shot. She sustained an injury to the head and was taken to Halifax Health in critical condition. Another victim, Tre Williams, was shot in the back. As of Saturday night, one had been released from the hospital.

All three victims are BCU students, police said. Postell is not.

"This is a very unfortunate incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the families, loved ones and fellow classmates of these students," B-CU said in a statement.

Postell faces charges of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
