A man has been arrested in an Orlando nightclub shooting that left two people dead early Sunday.

Jose Jaime Brull Lopez, 23, was arrested the night of the shooting at Glitz Ultra Lounge on Universal Boulevard, according to an Orlando Police arrest affidavit.

A total of 10 people were shot at the nightclub, not 11 as was originally reported, said Orlando Police Chief John Mina during a news conference at police headquarters Friday afternoon. The shooting was not a random act, and a fight between two groups escalated into the shooting incident, he said.

Joseph Lugo Villalobos, 22, and Jonathan Avila Rojas, 33, died of gunshot wounds.

One person involved in the fight remains hospitalized in stable condition. Two others involved in the fight have been treated and released.

Five innocent bystanders at the club that night were treated at a hospital and released, Mina said. The nightclub had about 300 people inside at the time of the shooting, Orlando Police said.

“When a senseless and violent act like this occurs, we do not rest until those people are brought justice. And trust me, those people will be behind bars,” said Mina.

Mina said that despite extensive security measures in place at the club, there was either a lapse in those measures that night or insufficient training by club staff. He urged club management to install metal detectors, increase the number of and retrain its private security and increase the number of police extra-duty officers.

Three Orlando police officers were working there that night. People also were being checked as they came in the door.

People who work nearby said the number of recent shootings in the area make them afraid to go to work.

“For whatever reason, whether there was a drug lord or someone with a psychological disorder... it makes me a little fearful,” Joshua Diaz said.

Brull Lopez is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with physical evidence. Other arrests are forthcoming, Mina said.
