A Marion County man has been arrested for sexual battery on a child and deputies believe there may be other victims.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said in March of 2015, the 17-year-old male victim was at the Dunnellon home of Charles Elder, 60, helping him repair his laptop computer.

Deputies said while the teen was in the home, Elder, who is not related to the victim, provided marijuana to him.  The teen did not have a ride home so he spent the night at Elder’s home, deputies said.

Investigators say the teen told them he woke up in the early morning hours to Elder sexually battering him.

The Sheriff’s Office said the victim didn't tell anyone about the incident for almost a year, but ultimately told his parents and authorities.

MCSO Major Crimes detectives said during an interview on Feb. 5, Elder admitted to sexually battering the victim but said it was consensual and he paid the victim for the sex act with marijuana.

Elder was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a victim less than 18 years of age.

Detectives said they have reason to believe that Elder may have other victims that have not yet come forward.

Investigators are asking anyone who is a victim or knows of any victims of Charles Elder to contact Detective Frank Scala at 352-368-3548.
