The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has forwarded charges against two students to the State Attorney's Office stemming from the Sept. 7 bomb threat at Bunnell Elementary School and a detailed plan to conduct a coordinated plot against Flagler Palm Coast High School.

The incident originally began after an emailed threat sent from a Flagler County student's school email account was received at Bunnell Elementary School. That threat was determined to be unfounded, deputies said.

During the bomb threat investigation, Flagler County detectives and school officials uncovered what appeared to be a separate plot against Flagler Palm Coast High School.

The students who were involved were removed from class and had their school and personal electronic devices confiscated by detectives.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office assisted Flagler County investigators forensically analyze all of the electronic devices that were seized.

When the exam was completed, Flagler County investigators were provided about 32,000 personal messages (chat) to read.

After reviewing the messages, investigators forwarded charges against one student for false reporting of a bomb and charges of false reporting of a bomb and written threats for another student. Both charges are felonies.

The students weren't arrested, and so federal law prohibits the school from identifying the students or their school status.
