A U.S. Army veteran who lives in Lake County said he will be patrolling his neighborhood at night after someone shot several of his animals.

  • Man in Lake County said someone shot several animals
  • 2 baby goats were shot and killed on the man's property
  • Other animals, including a dog and a pig, were also shot

Joshua Curtis lives on five acres of land along Lake Avenue in Fruitland Park with goats, pigs and chickens.

He said his daughter woke him up at about 4 a.m. two weeks ago after hearing some sort of commotion.

"My dog was going crazy and my animals outside were screaming, so I grabbed my gun and came out (of) my door," Curtis recalled.

Curtis said he saw two teenagers in the pen with his baby goats.

He said the teenagers threatened him before running off when they saw Curtis had a gun. When he got closer to his animals, Curtis realized the alleged trespassers shot and killed two baby goats and also shot his dog and a pig.

"I don't sleep at night," he said. "I'm up all night. I just stay around the neighborhood and look around here. I don't go to bed."

Curtis said 12 of his goats have been shot and killed within the last year. He plans on adding about 20 cameras and large floodlights to his property. He's also offering a $1,000 reward for anyone with information in the incidents.
