Orange County Public Schools superintendent Barbara Jenkins has been named a national finalist for 2017 Superintendent of the Year.

The announcement was made by AASA, the School Superintendents Association.

Earlier this month, Jenkins was named the 2017 Florida Superintendent of the Year at the Florida Association of District School Superintendents and Florida School Board Association joint conference.

Jenkins became superintendent for Orange County Public Schools in 2012.

“Dr. Barbara Jenkins is a superstar in American public education,” School Board Chairman Bill Sublette said. “Under her leadership, we have become the pre-eminent school district in Florida and one of the best in the nation.”

A final decision for Superintendent of the Year will be announced March 2, 2017, in New Orleans.
