The Marion County Board of County Commissioners approved incentive packages Tuesday for pet products distributor Chewy, Inc.

The commission voted to approve a $740,000 package to attract the company to Marion County. Chewy, Inc. would open a 600,000 square-foot distribution center in Ocala, generating a total of 600 jobs.

The cost to construct and equip the facility are estimated at more than $31 million.

“This is an exciting day,” said Commission Chairman Carl Zalak, in a release. “Since we came together with our partners several years ago, we’ve worked hard to develop both the infrastructure needed at the Ocala/Marion County Commerce Park and the vision for our community’s future. We’re excited about welcoming a great company, along with its opportunity, investment and economic momentum to our area.”

Chewy, Inc. is an e-commerce site that sells pet food and other-related products.
