“To the parents, this is just such a huge blessing to them,” Sherwood Elementary teacher Stacey Nemetz said.

Stacey and others busily packed bag after bag inside the small Sherwood Elementary classroom, all in preparation for a little holiday wonder on Tuesday morning.

“The parents were just hugging on them and saying thank you so much for helping out our family," Nemetz said. "'We did not know how we were going to put together a holiday meal, let alone feed our families.'”

Thanks to these volunteers, more than 250 families will receive bags for Christmas Day, filled with stuffing, mashed potatoes, pie, green beans and all the essentials for a Christmas dinner.

The food was bought using money donated by Brilliant Smiles Orthodontics.

“Oh this is big, this is huge!" volunteer Amy Evans said. "When the parents come in they tear up, they hug each other, they are just so grateful. There is just no other feeling like it, it’s better than Christmas morning.”

Families from 10 different schools across Brevard County have been selected and will receive these donated goods on Wednesday.

“This is just one more way as schools that we can help those families and those children,” Nemetz said.

Last year they put together 120 meals, this year 258. By next year, volunteers said they hope to see that number double yet again.
