Ford is recalling more than 680,000 midsize sedans due to faulty front seat belts.

  • 680,000 Ford vehicles sold in North America recalled
  • Front seat belt may not properly hold during a crash
  • Affects certain Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ and Ford Mondeo models

The company says the seat belts may not properly restrain people in a crash. Heat generated when the seat belt pre-tensioners deploy can cause cables to break.

Ford says there have been two injuries related to the issue.

The recall affects certain 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion, 2013 to 2015 Lincoln MKZ and 2015 and 2016 Ford Mondeo vehicles.

Dealers will fix the issue at no cost to owners. The recall is expected to begin on Jan. 16.
