An employee walking into a dialysis center was shot and killed Friday at an Orlando-area shopping complex, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses told deputies that a man and a woman approached Gregory Whitbeck just before 7 a.m. in the parking lot of the Fresenius Medical Care West Orlando Dialysis Center at 5600 West Colonial Drive.

Whitbeck, 55, was shot, and the couple left. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. 

Jon Stone, a spokesman for the medical center, said Whitbeck was an employee of the company and worked at the facility.

The shooting happened at a busy intersection, and deputies said they have several accounts of what happened.

"We do have witnesses," Deputy Rose Silva said. "Our detectives are on scene and they are conducting their investigation. They’re looking at interviewing witnesses, to see if there's any video.”

Investigators have not released a motive.
