A Brevard County babysitter has been charged in connection with the drowning death of a 5-year-old, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.

Jacqueline Bjorndal, 22, was arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter by neglect of a child.

Investigators say Bjorndal was watching Aubrey Alcott at her home Nov. 25. Bjorndal told police she came outside and discovered the child in the pool.

Bjorndal was being held at the Brevard County Detention Center. During a first appearance before a judge Thursday, bond was set at $50,000, and she won't be allowed to care for any child under the age of 16 who isn't accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Her arraignment was scheduled for 8 a.m. Jan. 5 in Viera.
